The most important factor in your entrepreneurial business success is the way you FEEL.
And this applies whether you’re a voice-over artist, a writer, an audio engineer, a designer, or a performer, or any other independent business person.
If you feel great, you’re energized. You’re optimistic. You’re willing to work hard and more easily find solutions to any challenges that arise.
On the other hand, if you feel bad, your energy is compromised. You’re pessimistic. You dread working on your business. And solutions to problems are elusive which can lead to frustration which makes you feel even worse.
Even though there can be other factors that influence your business success, the way YOU FEEL is really the most powerful influence. And luckily one you have total control of.
You see the way you feel is dictated by your thoughts.
And the one thing that most directly affects your thoughts is your words: The words you speak. The empowering or disempowering vocabulary you use. The phrases you put together to describe your day, your challenges, your clients, your finances, your work, your life.
Each and every word you speak and every phrase you utter does one of two things:
- They either make you feel better.
- Or they make you feel worse.
The words that come out of your mouth (especially the habitual ones) have a distinct emotional punch.
If you regularly say things like: “I know I can figure this out!” or “This is great!” or “How did I get so lucky?” you’ll find yourself feeling positive, excited, and optimistic. Which will translate into being a positive and inspired force in your business.
Conversely, if you choose to use words that make you feel negative and frustrated, they’ll have an immediate impact on your effectiveness in your business. For example, if you regularly say things like: “This sucks!” or “Why does this always happen to me?” or “I can’t believe how frustrating this is!” you’ll find yourself feeling angry, discouraged, or depressed. Which translates into not being a positive force in your business.
Again:
- Positive verbiage is empowering.
- Negative verbiage is disempowering.
So the secret here is: Start changing the words you use to be consistently positive, and just watch your business success increase. It’s like magic! The words you use on a regular basis are literally creating the life you live.
After some reflection, you might discover that the habit of using negative words is probably systemic and you may realize you use them in all areas of your life, not just pertaining to your business.
So if you’re someone who is steeped in using negative verbiage, cursing, or can hardly imagine speaking regularly in positive phrases, just start with baby steps!
- For example, if you normally yell and curse at other drivers while in your car, change your verbiage just a little. Instead of saying, “You *&^%$!” Say, “You silly rabbit!” or “Gosh darn it.” or “Phooey!”
- If you find yourself saying, “This is so overwhelming!” Instead say, “Well this is a little challenging!”
- If you hear yourself saying, “Why is this client always so obstinate?” Instead say, “Working with this client certainly is stimulating!”
Do you see what I mean?
Start training yourself to be aware of the habitual verbiage you use.
And begin to discipline yourself to use consistently positive (or at least more positive!), empowering, or humorous words and phrases.
You’ll discover that the more you change your words to the positive, the better you’ll feel. And the better you feel, the more inspired and motivated you’ll be in your business. And the more inspired and motivated you are in your business, the more you’ll succeed.
So try it. Start small if you need to, but begin today to be aware of the words that come out of your mouth, and how they make you feel. Then take steps to start using success vocabulary. You’ll be amazed at the results!
